Winter Training Begins
Week 1 11/12-11/17
It was the first week of Track training after our one week of recovery between seasons. Everything was on our own and whatever distance we felt like doing. I ended up running 48 miles in 5 days for a decent first week back.
Sunday 11/12 - Last day of recovery between seasons. I went on one long bike ride last week, but didn’t run or do too much of anything the rest of it.
Monday 11/13 - I kicked off the winter training nice and early with a 5:30 AM run with one of the recruits. We ran Martin Springs at a pretty fast pace for the first run in over a week. It took a little under 62 minutes for an average pace of 6:25/mile. I also ran to multi, but got a ride home.
Total 10.5 miles, 68 minutes
Tuesday 11/14 - I went for a crazy run with Kurt today. We were trying to find a route that I had done once and he’s never done and made a wrong turn fairly early in the run. We ended up going out Martin Springs and turning on the wrong road on the left and hit a hilly dirt road. Once we realized it was the wrong one we decided to run another underdeveloped road for awhile, but it dead ended. Then we went through the first of many barbed wire fences and ended up running through a couple fields then along the edge of a quarry that we didn’t know existed and ended up on Highway CC when we got out of there. From there it was just a simple run down towards Lions Club and back up 63 through the rain.
Total 11.5 miles, 80 minutes
Wednesday 11/15 - Well I had an even more exciting run today. It was in the low 40’s and there wasn’t going to be a stop to the rain all day, so I went running through fairly heavy rain at about 11 to Lions Club. The trails were amazing to run, because half the time your feet were underwater, and when they weren’t the ground was so slippery you could barely balance. There were a couple turns where I actually went off the trail into the woods, because I couldn’t balance. The return run though was a pretty cold. Once, I got out of the woods the rain really picked up and was starting to get cold through the one thin layer of under armor. When I got home I was freezing, but it was the on of the greatest runs I have ever done.
Total 9 miles, 56 minutes
Thursday 11/16 - Today was an extremely boring run compared to the rest of the week. I wanted to find something flat, but didn’t really accomplish that. I started out going to Green Acres, but about 100 feet into the trail I decided I didn’t want to do it anymore, so I went on a few random dead end roads to the northwest of the park and ended up cutting through the graveyard to the road that leads to Lions Club. From there I turned left at the entrance instead of heading into the park to see where that road went. I ran that to Forum and ran Forum up to 18th and back home. It was a decent run, but my shins were sore.
Total 9 miles, 56 minutes
Friday 11/17 - A nice easy early morning run. I did college hills with a short add on towards the end. Nothing exiting happened on the run except there being a lot of traffic with rush hour. Total 8 miles, 54 minutes
