Broken hand and first indoor 5K

Track Week 4 - 1/28-2/3

Sorry for the big delay in updating this. I got real lazy after breaking my hand and didn’t feel like typing at first. The week went ok running with a splint. I ran a PR in the 5K, but my time still wasn’t that great. Sorry for the undetailed info, but the mileage is still right.

1/28 - Well this week started off bad. It was pretty cold out for my morning run with Boston (-4 wind chill), so after about 5 miles we decided to run Lions Club Park. The trail was ok with a little snow at first, then the next stretch had a bunch of fallen trees. After that the trail cleared up but there were a lot of snow/ice patches to run over. I was doing fine, then I got close to a corner where I fell before, so I started to tell Boston, “this is where i almost fell last time i was here.” Right as I said the word “fell” I slipt on a patch of ice that was to small to see and all of my weight came down on my right hand. I got up and was happy, because my legs didnt hit at all, but then I realized my hand hurt really bad. I thought I just twisted it weird at first, but it kept getting worse. I ended up running for another hour after I fell and towards the end of the run I couldn’t straighten my hand all the way anymore. So I got back in multi and coach had to take off my glove for me to reveal that the top of my hand had swollen up a lot. After that I iced it and got some food to eat then coach took me up to student health. They sent me to the emergency room, and at about 11:45 I found out I fractured two bones at the joint between the fingers and bulk of the hand. Then I got a splint put on and tomorrow I should be good to run, but I’ll probably have a cast in a couple days.

Total 15.5 miles, 105 minutes

1/29 - It was my first day running with the splint on, so coach had me take the morning off. In the afternoon I ran College Hills with Joffroi and Hurford.

Total 7.5 miles, 51 minutes

1/30 - I ran generic today.

Total 7 miles, 49 minutes

1/31 - In the morning I biked for 33 minutes. The worst workout in awhile. We did the 11×1000 with decreasing rest again, but I could never get on pace. I didn’t even end up picking up a copy of the splits, but I averaged about 3:20-25.

Total 12 miles, 110 minutes

2/1 - I ran college hills again, but just with Joffroi this time.

Total 7.5 miles, 50 minutes

2/2 - A nice easy two miler to stay lose before the meet.

Total 2 miles, 12 minutes

2/3 - I ran my first indoor 5K ever today. I had a decent time, but not what I wanted. The first mile was good in 4:52, then I sat behind Kurt for awhile and fell back to 5:08 for the next mile, which was way too slow and easy. I paid for it in the third mile, because I was running on my own and only was able to run a 5:18. My total time for the race was 15:53, which is currently my best on any surface. hopefully next weekend I can drop a lot of time and run more aggressive.
